Where Winds Meet PvP: which modes ignore your gear
PvP in Where Winds Meet is not one ruleset. Some brackets read your Attunement and full gear set, one bracket reads none of it, and the matchmaking floor can strip every bonus you spent weeks building. Here is which is which.
At a glance
- 33 (群策)
- Pure equalized: no gear, no sets, no Attunement
- 11 / 22 / 55
- 论剑 / 争锋 / 演武: Attunement and gear both apply
- Matchmaking floor
- Overrides 11/22/55; strips sets, Tuning and Attunement
- What survives the floor
- 止戈 talents only
- 33 vs floor
- 33 is unaffected — already equalized
- Best place to learn
- 33, because gear cannot mask a mistake
You spent two weeks finishing a level 100 build. You queued into PvP, matched against someone in visibly worse gear, and lost. Then you lost again. Then you started drafting a forum post about stat inflation.
The post would have been wrong. Where Winds Meet does not run one PvP ruleset — it runs three, and the bracket you queue into decides whether any of your progression exists at all. In one of them the gear chain is switched off by design. In another it is live right up until a matchmaking floor silently strips it mid-queue.
If you do not know which of those three situations you are in, you are not losing to other players. You are losing to a rules table you have never read.
How does 止戈 equalize PvP?
The PvP system is called 止戈. No official English name has been published, so this site keeps the Chinese and treats "PvP adjustment" as a description rather than a translation. It applies equalization at three levels: 33 equalizes everything, 11/22/55 equalize nothing, and the matchmaking floor can equalize 11/22/55 anyway.
What applies in each bracket?
| Mode | Attunement active? | Gear / sets active? | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 33 (群策) | No | No | Pure equalized. Skill and timing only. |
| 11 (论剑) | Yes | Yes | Full progression live. |
| 22 (争锋) | Yes | Yes | Full progression live. |
| 55 (演武) | Yes | Yes | Full progression live. |
| Matchmaking floor | No | No — sets, Tuning and Attunement all stripped | Only 止戈 talents remain. |
| Floor vs. 33 | — | — | 33 is unaffected. Already equalized. |
Why is 33 the best place to learn?
33 is the clean one: Attunement does not apply, gear and sets do not apply. What you bring is your character, your martial art, your Inner Ways as the mode allows, and your hands. A player with a half-finished build and good Deflect timing can win there; a player with a perfect build and bad timing cannot buy their way out.
That also means a 33 result tells you your hands are good and nothing else. It is not a build review. For the underlying loop, see the combat core page.
What about 11, 22 and 55?
These three are normal PvP: Attunement applies, gear and sets apply. Everything you did in PvE shows up, which means build quality and gear completion actually decide fights. It cuts both ways — this is where your investment pays off, and where a lazy stat spread gets exposed. If you have been coasting on 33 results, this is a different game.
What is the matchmaking floor?
The floor (保底调平) is a safety net for badly mismatched queues. When it triggers inside 11/22/55 it does not nudge your stats — it removes them:
- Attunement: off.
- Gear and sets: off — including Tuning and Attunement.
- What survives: your 止戈 talents only.
- 33 is unaffected. It is already equalized, so there is nothing left to strip.
The practical consequence is the one that generates most "my build is bugged" threads: you can queue 11/22/55 twice, get two completely different rule environments, and never be told which one you got. The gear-side explanation of the same mechanic is on the gear chain page.
How should this change my build planning?
| If you mainly play… | Build priority |
|---|---|
| 33 | Deflect timing, martial-art fluency, Inner Way synergy that survives equalization |
| 11/22/55 | Everything — stat floors, crit thresholds, full gear chain, set bonuses |
| Both | Build for 11/22/55, then verify the build still functions when the floor strips it |
That last row is the interesting one. A build that only works because of a set bonus and an Attunement breakpoint stops working the moment the floor triggers. If your damage lives entirely in gear multipliers, a floored match turns you into a worse version of a 33 player.
Pro tips
- Learn PvP in 33 first. It is the only bracket where losing is purely informative — no gear excuse, no floor ambiguity.
- Check the environment before changing your build. If your numbers disappeared between two matches in the same bracket, the floor applied; changing Inner Ways will not fix a rule table.
- Do not build a glass cannon around set bonuses only. The more of your output that lives in gear, the harder the floor hits you.
- Keep your 止戈 talents current. They are the only thing guaranteed to survive every equalization layer.
- Re-check the bracket table after every patch. These rules change without a notification.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Attunement work in 11/22/55 but not in 33?
Because 33 is a pure equalized mode: Attunement is switched off by design, along with gear and sets. It is not a bug, a nerf, or a hidden penalty for queuing too often.
Is the matchmaking floor a punishment?
No. It is a safety net for lopsided queues. The confusing part is that it has no visible notification — your stats simply stop applying. If a fight feels like your gear vanished, it did, and that is the floor working as intended.
Can I win 11/22/55 without finishing my gear chain?
Sometimes, against players in the same position. But that is where progression is live, so it is also where those differences show. If you want a mode where the outcome is purely on you, that mode is 33.
